This weekend, rain played a spoilt sport in South East Michigan and deprived many cricket lovers of some exciting finals they were looking forward to. However, we were lucky to successfully organize at least the F40 League finals. Cleveland Cricket Club (CLCC) beat Farmington Hills Cricket Club (FHCC) by 26 runs to win 2009 F40 League Championship. This was CLCC's second season in MichCA and they played like a top-class team throught the 2009 season. FHCC- one of the elite cricket clubs of Michigan, on the other hand was unlucky to lose the finals for the second consecutive time. Last Year's winners and defending champions for 7 years- Greater Detroit Crucket Club got humbled this season and could't qualify for the SemiFinals. The finals this year was between top two teams and therefore it was expected that this ecxiting match'd go down the wire. CLCC batted first and scored 190 runs in 40 overs. Bloomer Park, known for its fast outfield had a rare low-scoring game due to wet ground and a little damp pitch. Despite CLCC's shaky start, Sujay (40), Ani (36) and Pratik (31) made sure that they set a defendable target. Goutham 4-37Venu 3-46 led FHCC's bowling attack to slow-down CLCC's batsmen but they managed to score a respectable score. FHCC started their inning on the wrong foot and after 15 overs they were struggling at 50 runs for 4 wkts. Tight bowling by Sujay (3-25), Deepak (3-36), Manu (2 wkts) put breaks on FHCC's run chase. FHCC defensive batting didn't help much as they ended up losing 8 wickets at 75 after 22 overs.John Titus and Vamsi scripted a spectacular 80 run 9th wicket partnership to bring FHCC back in the game. John's fireworks of a few sixes revived the hopes in FHCC can but sensible bowling and fielding by CLCC kept the hosts 26 runs short of the target.

MichCA also organized T20 League Championship Fonals and T20 League Contenders' Cup Finals this weekend but both games got washed-out dur to intermittant rains. Both these games will now be held next weekend along with MICHCA's 2009 Inter-University Tournament.
